Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control
Oracle Training Overview

This Oracle 10g courseware training guide book will teach how to deploy Oracle Enterprise Manager and effectively use the tool to administer and monitor the Oracle Database and Operating System. During this class participants learn the Oracle Enterprise Manager architecture, setup the console, use a variety of integrated applications, learn about reports, implement job- and event-based system management. This enables participants to administer and monitor the Oracle platform from a single, integrated, GUI, and easy-to-use console. Standalone, three-tier, and browser-based configurations are discussed in this course.

Practical implementation of the ITIL goals of service management, change management and configuration management is possible with the Oracle state-of-the-art "Grid Control" product.


Oracle Training Prerequisites

Mandatory prerequisites for this course are the following courses are either of the following courses. Ideally one should have familiarity with both database and application server administration:

  • The course ORACLE DATABASE 10G: ADMINISTRATION I or
  • The course ORACLE APPLICATION SERVER 10G: ADMINISTRATION I

Oracle Training Objectives

This course provides training in use of the centralized administration environment of the Oracle Grid Control. Using this interface, one can administer and monitor objects throughout the enterprise data center, including Oracle and non-Oracle databases, application servers, web servers and enterprise application suites, such as the Oracle e-Business Applications Suite and PeopleSoft Enterprise. Specifically, within this course one will find in-depth training, lectures and hands-on workshops for the following topics:

  • Explore the capabilities of grid computing and how the Grid Control can centralized all administration and monitoring of data centers throughout the enterprise.
  • Integrating Linux, UNIX and MS Windows hosts into the Grid Control framework, as well as database instances, application server instances and related components.
  • Understand the unique self-monitoring nature of the Grid Control.
  • Customize and troubleshoot Grid Control and target configurations.
  • Define administrator credentials and build a security scheme for access to the Grid
  • Control console.
  • Learn how management plug-ins and connectors may be used to extend the administration reach of Grid Control to numerous other components, such as the databases IBM DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server, middleware technologies such as Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), Microsoft Active Directory, IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic and open source JBoss, and specialized technologies such as EMC Celerra Server, Microsoft Operations Manager, Remedy Helpdesk and others.
  • Use the Job subsystem and Information Publisher reports to maintain and monitor targets throughout the enterprise.
