Overview:

This course gives the student an understanding of the role of the Analyst, and how that person brings together the building blocks (people, data, process, interface and communications) of modern IT systems. It introduces the concepts of Enterprise Analysis, Requirements Elicitation, Requirements Analysis, Requirements Communication and Solution Assessment and Validation. These are the key areas defined in the International Institute of Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK). This class is designed as an introduction to further classes that focus on various best practices used in the analysis and design processes

This course is designed for business and technical experts that need to understand the methodologies, tools and techniques used in solving business problems by developing IT based solutions.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

• Define the role of the analyst as a modern business problem solver.
• Describe information systems customers, partners and technicians and their expectations of an IT system.
• Understand how to bring together the people and the technology to achieve successful IT systems.
• Define and identify the building blocks of any IT system (people, data, interface and communications).
• Define the activities undertaken during a projects life cycle (fact-finding, documentation and measurement, feasibility analysis, project and process management).
• Apply the three main phases of analysis (survey, study and documentation).
• Define the stages of the IIBA BABOK and how they relate to the SDLC process.
