COM/COM+ Training Overview
This course provides an thorough introduction to some key Microsoft technologies which are part of Windows DNA (Distributed interNet Applications Architecture). DNA provides a framework for building the next generation of products which can work well in both traditional desktop application and in an Internet environment. The underlying foundation for a lot of these emerging technologies is COM. This course starts with a thorough introduction to important COM concepts. Then we look at ATL which is a new class library from Microsoft which allows you to create a variety of small fast COM objects. ATL is an excellent library to learn COM programming techniques. We then look at other key technologies including Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) a server side component hosting environment for building highly scalable applications, Active Data Objects (ADO) which provides a unified model for accessing a wide variety of data sources and Active Server Pages (ASP) which provides a way to dynamically generate HTML pages. We will conclude by taking a look at MSMQ (Microsoft Message Queue Server) used for building offline applications and COM+ the next generation of COM technology. Most of the modules have associated labs which will reinforce the theory introduced in the lecture and provide you with practical techniques which can be used immediately in the workplace.
