Personal computing Overview

Mac OS X is the largest and most ambitious system upgrade in the history of the Macintosh computing platform. Mac OS X combines major user interface changes with large-scale under the hood improvements. This requires even the most experienced Macintosh users to change some of the fundamental ways they work with their computers on a daily basis. This course is for those users who have experience with previous versions of the Macintosh OS. It focuses on the differences between Mac OS X and previous OS versions, and will make it easier to become productive with Mac OS X right away.

Prerequisites:

To ensure your success, we recommend you first take the following course, have experience using an OS version prior to Mac OS X, or have equivalent knowledge:

Hardware/Software Requirements

You will need:

• A PowerPC processor. See www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/requirements for a complete list of hardware systems that will run Mac OS X.
• At least 128 MB of RAM.
• At least 3 GB of available storage space to install the Mac OS X operating system.
• A monitor capable of displaying 24-bit color at a resolution of at least 800 x 600 (1024 x 768 or more recommended).
• A CD-ROM drive.
• The Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) operating system.

• Identify the new technologies introduced in Mac OS X, both in the user interface and under the hood.
• Identify the major parts of the Finder and their functions and manage Finder windows using window controls.
• Use the System Preferences application to specify settings that will maximize your computer's efficiency and suit your work style.
• Use advanced navigation, organization, and troubleshooting techniques.
